How to Dicipline A Childeren With Special Needs:

Parents of children with special needs want to help their children gain appropriate social behavior.

Discipline is one way to provide this assistance. It is important to know that discipline is not the same as punishment and is also a vital way of guidance for parents. Although some prominent behavioral disorders in children share the same cause, children with social, emotional and academic difficulties need a customized approach. Here we introduce you to the challenges of discipline for children affected by at least one of ADHD, learning disabilities and neuro-behavioral disabilities.

Setting Rules

One of the biggest problems of children with neuro-behavioral disorders is the inability to distinguish and remember the expected behavior. Since the child’s own nervous system gives them a lot of messages and the child’s mind is busy with these messages, they may not realize whether it is their behavior that causes confusion.

If the parents treat their child calmly and be clear about what they expect. The childeren can get more comfortable and don’t feel confused. Clear guidelines are necessary to improve children’s information processing, and this will emphasize the fact that the parent is the most important teacher of the child.

Positive Communication

Ignoring bad behavior and rewarding good behavior is one of the most reliable and polite ways to change one’s actions. By providing positive reinforcement, parents create a safe and not distant environment when children exhibit the expected behavior. It is very important to provide reinforcements as soon as possible after the desired behavior has taken place. If the child is asked to behave ceratin way it should be in positive way. For example, if the child pokes his sibling, the parent can say: Keep your hand in a position that does not disturb your brother / sister.

Give them a choice whenever possible

When child resists to go to bed parents may offer special pajama or new toys to creat comfortable zone. This strategy fixes the discipline problem in the family and gives the child strength. All of these practices will help, but the main reason is to diagnose and understand what is happening in the minds of children with different difficulties, it is critical to directly intervene in the problem. Once a child is diagnosed with what he or she is experiencing, a customized approach will assure us whether the child has achieved his or her potential.
