Yoga Exercises for Childeren With Anxiety

Children with neurobehavioral disorders such as ADHD, Asperger, Processing Difficulty, and Learning Difficulty feel tense and anxious. These children can benefit from yoga to regulate stress response systems. Body postures and controlled breathing in yoga can improve the mood and functionality of all children by reducing their deep anxiety.

Yoga for kids are different than normal yoga. If you are going to use yoga to reduce deep anxiety in the child, you will need to follow a few regulations that will make this practice more effective.

How Does It Work ?

In practice, any exercise reduces anxiety (deep anxiety). However, yoga seems to be a very good option for treating anxiety in children. At least, research shows that behavioral yoga therapy also functions as perceptual behavioral yoga therapy.

Yoga offers the following opportunities to children experiencing anxiety:

Positions That Reduces Anxiety

Although there is not much scientific research on this issue, many yoga experts say that certain postures are better for treating anxiety. The most effective postures often focus on balance, some of the best alternatives include:

  • Child’s Posture
  • Tree Posture
  • Warrior

Although upside down postures are usually suggeseted, parents should avoid postures that would lead to any disability.

Maintaining Yoga in Long Term

Regular exercise is vital to success. Positive changes result from weeks and months of exercise. This becomes a difficult situation for children affected by anxiety insufficiency, which can be easily bored and discouraged. Therefore, visualization exercises in yoga should be made as fun as possible. Because if it looks like a tedious job, children will not want to participate in yoga in the long term.

Some yoga studios have classes designed specifically for children. Trainers should know how to keep these classes fun for children.
Unfortunately, parents do not have this advantage when children practice at home. When practicing at home, try to make yoga interesting in the following ways:

  • Finding fun and creative names for postures,
  • Using each posture as part of a story,
  • Encourage siblings to compete,
  • Rewarding children who follow the guidelines correctly

Movement plays an important role in addressing anxiety symptoms. Yoga is methodological approach to movement and breathing makes it a great option for improving the coping skills of children with anxiety. Yoga may not completely eliminate anxiety disorder, but it is an undeniable fact that it teaches many people how to live with uncomfortable feelings instead of panicking.
